Bonded leather, also called blended or reconstituted leather, is a product made of polyurethane with leather shavings sprayed onto the back. The polyurethane component makes the bonded leather a durable sofa material.

Bonded leather is one of the easiest leathers to care for, it is easy to clean and maintain. Here are certain steps you can follow to increase the life of your bonded leather furniture:

Advantages of bonded leather:

Environmentally friendly – Leftover leather is reused without extra farming

Product consistency – No natural defects used. Minimal batch to batch variation

High cutting yield – Reduces landfill waste and is cost efficient

How to Preserve a Bonded-Leather Sofa

1. Keep bonded leather sofas away from direct sunlight from windows or skylights. While it is a durable material, it is vulnerable to fading overtime, when exposed to sunlight.

2. Remove dirt and body oil with a soft, damp cloth. For tough dirt or stains, clean with leather cleaner or a mild non-alkaline, non-detergent soap and a soft cloth.

3. Repeat cleaning every two to three weeks with a damp cloth to remove dust and to prevent staining. If your sofa gets used a lot, you should clean it more often.

4. Dab and remove spill ups with a soft, dry cloth or paper towel as soon as they occur. Do not rub stains or spills to avoid the bonded leather from wearing faster.

5. Vacuum the sofa regularly to remove dust, dirt, and debris. Use a soft brush to avoid tearing or scratching the leather and use a crevice tool to clean dust and debris hidden in the seams.

6. Apply 1 tablespoon of leather conditioner, which can be used with bonded leather products, to a soft cloth (leather conditioners are available at most leather furniture stores).

7.Test the conditioner on a small area to ensure it doesn’t cause any discoloration. Massage, but avoid rubbing. Pay attention to the areas that get the most wear, such as the seats and arms. Wipe away the excess conditioner using a dry cloth. Treat your bonded leather furniture with a conditioner about twice a year.
